First Fire

With all the rain, and the cooler temperatures, it was time to fire up the old wood heater. We had recently been presented with a truck load of ready cut fire wood.
The Fuzz had gotten the Young Daughter to stack some of it safely under some tin. This was the time to use it.
The Fuzz was home alone, due to a bit of back trouble alluded to in a recent post. It was getting a bit cool in the trailer, so he went out, picked up a few twigs, and fired her up. There's something about a nice warm fire that just chears the place up.Even if it is in a box.

Rain, Finally

Well, we are getting a bit of rain at last.
It is that time of year. It normally starts to rain around the time for the fair, which starts this week. But it has been pretty dry around here lately. The Fuzz had plans to work on his Work Shed Project, but that appears to have been rained out.
The Pooches are not real fond of the rain, as can be seen. They are huddled up out here on the porch. Wet dogies aren't real welcome in the trailer.
But it's not certain that The Old Fuzz would have gotten much done anyway. With the threat of bigtime rain, he had been out gathering some dry kindling just in case we would want some heat. He seems to have made a wrong move out there. We hope his back will be better soon.

Not Today

Feet up Flying low
Between the Sky and the Earth
The Speed is the Rush

The road wound down toward the river. The bike was beginning to warm up as he shot across the bridge, and up the hill to the highway. Downshifting, and leaning into the turn he entered the high road. It was clear ahead, and he was unable to resist the urge to twist the throttle open. The rumble at his heals became a snarl and then a roar as he kicked through the gears. To the right he noticed the lonely tombstones on a hill.

The thought came to him, as it had at times before, was this the time? Did one know somehow, when it would happen? Or was it always a surprise.

Downshifting, he heard the tire bark as he laid the bike over into the turn. Now the front end lightened as he kicked thought the gears again. The country road was clear also, as the wind drowned out the roar. More turns, more shifts, and at last, the slow ride in.

Not today.

Cornmeal

One of the cool things at the Apple Festival was some of the old machinery. There was one off those old John Deere Pop-Pop motors that only hit a power stroke every now and again.

And there was this Cornmeal Mill.

It was pretty cool. They had the thing running, but there wasn't any corn in it.Here's a look at it running. Notice that Big Ass Flywheel. Most of these old things seem to have them. Below is a look at the end where the cornmeal is supposed to be coming out, but as you can see, there ain't none.We did enjoy the festival.
The weather here is still pretty warm. Some leaves are falling, but it still feels a lot like summer. At least it cools off at night.
We finally watched that Avatar flick. It was pretty good. Of course we didn't see it in 3-D. But we did like it. We'll watch it again before we send it back.

Apple Festival

The Fuzz and His Sweetie went over to the Lincoln County Apple Festival Saturday. There was a pretty big crowd. We didn't realize it was such a big affair. It was hard to find a place to park. But we finally did, although there was a bit of a walk, which made it a bit of a chore to carry our loot.
This Guy, Tom Brown, has a hobby of finding and saving old varieties of apples. Here's a link to his website, Apple Search. We were kinda hoping we could buy some of these kinds of apples over there. But unfortunately, although there were a number of orchards represented, the selection for sale, was pretty much limited to what one can find anywhere.
Just hanging out in a crowd like that can poop one out. And it's not just us old guys.
The Fuzz realizes that he has been a bit slack here lately, but he will get some more pix of this event up soon.

Food Movies

We watched Food, Inc. the other night. It was a bit of a bummer. The Fuzz wasn't really surprised by the meat industry, having seen this stuff before. We have raised goats, geese and chickens ourselves, and know it's not necessary to treat them this bad.
What got The Fuzz the most, was how the corporations were hounding and suing the little people to get a monopoly. That, and the apparent collusion by the government in all this.

Katie did drop in for a visit.

Still At It

The Fuzz hasn't given up on this yet. It is a slow go though. He did get the rest of the piers mortared together though. Next, he'll have to get some lumber out here for the sills and floor joists.
He's hoping to get this together before winter sets in.
There's a number of things that need to be taken care of before then.
The Fuzz's Sweetie has been busy too. She is putting the finishing touch on our Unique and Impressive Floors. She had been unable to finish last fall before the cold set in and we had to keep the windows closed.
This has been a big job indeed. But we certainly have a unique and colorful place here. One of the neighbor boys was here the other day and remarked on how colorful our place is.
So as you can see, we are staying busy out here.

Mystery Pix

Well, The Fuzz regrets that he didn't get back sooner.
He didn't think this was a difficult one, but it must have been.
Oh well.
So here it is.

It's just a coffee grinder.

We are expecting a few Bugs with this blog in the near future.
But it should be OK.

More for the Floor (Again)

This weekend's project. The fuzz had never gotten around to finishing The Young Daughter's bathroom. We had actually held off on the floor 'till she had finished painting the walls. But now there were no more excuses, and The Fuzz had to get to work.
The walls are not exactly perfect in this trailer, so The Fuzz used this 4ft level for a straight edge to keep the first course lined up.
Things seemed to be working out OK at this stage. But complications were ahead. When things are all straight lines, and whole tiles, it goes pretty fast. But life's not like that. The Fuzz had elected to fit the new tiles around the commode rather than to pull it up and have to fool with the pluming.
However, this would require some complicated fitting. Fortunately, he had saved his templates from when he had done a similar job on the other bathroom. Normally, things like this get thrown out about a week before he needs them. They were a bit crumpled, but still serviceable.
It took a couple tries, but he finally got it right, sort of.
He kept plugging away, bringing the tiles to the door. The rest of the cuts were pretty much straight stuff so it went OK. At the door he fitted a 1x4 at the edge. That did get a little complicated since He had taken the table saw back to the house in town. After trying a few things, he finally was able to wedge the board into a gap between the decking on the porch, and used the circular saw to make the appropriate cuts. We regret that there are no pix of this little trick, At this point he was pretty much involved in what he was doing, and kinda forgot about the camera. But we do have one of the finished floor. At last it was time for a well earned Cold One.
