Back to the Bathroom

When we last left this project, The Fuzz had managed to get the shower base and sides installed.
And even the shower control.
Next in line was the new wall & trim.
And despite a few complications, this was done as well.
His Sweetie had a plan for painting the newly exposed parts of the wall.
But first they would need to be coated with some of that Kiltz stuff.
They have had good luck with this in the past.
So The Fuzz got busy and put on a couple coats of it.
It came out okay.

Since now a bit more of the subfloor was exposed, it seemed like a good time to upgrade the floor as well.
So one more trip to that Infamous Home Improvement Store resulted in this!

It looks like Our Fuzz might be busy for a while.
Here we have the cement backer board, some mastic,
and a pile of tile!
Well this aught to keep That Fuzz out of trouble for a while.

Winter On the Way

Well, it is officially Fall (or Autumn) now.
And it is getting a bit cooler-
especially in the mornings.

So it was time to get out the old chainsaw again.
The Fuzz is bad about putting these things off.
But there are a few dead or dying trees here around our Home in the Woods; and that is what The Fuzz was after.

So The Fuzz managed to get in just a bit of wood cutting
(and splitting)
before the much needed rain set in.
It ain't all that much-
but it is a start.
It did take a bit of persuasion to get the splitter going.
But eventually, he did get this little bit of wood worked up-
and just in time before the rain settled in.

And of course, there's nothing like a nice wood stove on a cold morning.

Remember These?

The Fuzz was recently fixing himself a bit of dinner and had occasion to open a can of sauerkraut to go with his sausages.
It turned out that there was no can opener handy.
So he was forced to resort to one of these.

To many folks, a P 38 was an impressive fighter plane from the 2nd World War.
Or perhaps a certain firearm.
But to those who have ever had the pleasure of enjoying a meal of those equally famous C-Rations, a P 38 will always be one of life's necessities.
In fact, The Fuzz still carries one of these little jewels on his keyring.
And it is still as effective as ever.

The Fuzz supposes, that in these times of pull tabs and flimsy plastic (or whatever) packs-
that can be impossible to open-
There are some who may never have had the pleasure of using-
or even seeing one of these handy little gizmos.

The Fuzz thinks that is their loss.

The Tattoo Archive

The Fuzz was recently privileged to visit the Tattoo Archive in Winston-Salem.

This time as an observer!
This was much less painful.

Here's a look at a bit of the actual Archive itself.

These two might be here for more than the "Archives" themselves.
In that case they'll be headed here.
As was already mentioned, The Fuzz was just going to sit this one out.
That saved him the embarrassment of passing out.
(This seems to be a re-occurring problem for The Macho Fuzz)
But the ladies seem to do fine!

While they were occupied he slipped off for a cold one at the nearby Foot Hills Brewery.
He thought he was keeping up with the time, but suddenly realized that he was about 5min late on the parking meter.
And that was all it took.
When he went out to feed the meter-

Some guy was already writing the ticket.
He must have been waiting for the time to run out.

Oh well...
Some days are just like that.

More Bathroom Stuff

When we had left off last time, Our Fuzz had managed to get the shower base in place, and the drain line rerouted accordingly.

At this point we will need to backtrack slightly.
There was a bit more carpentry involved, and it was best done without the shower in the way.
This new shower was not quite as big as the old bathtub arrangement...
So it was necessary to put in a bit of wall to make up the difference.
After a couple of attempts, The Fuzz managed to get the top plate fitted to the slope of the ceiling.

All this was done before the shower base was installed;
since there would be no room to work on it then.
And of course, The Cautious Fuzz did not want to damage that expensive component.
This wall frame had not been fastened in place yet since then there would be no room to get the shower base in!
So it was removed and the base installed, as related in the previous post.
Once that was done, the wall was put back in, plumbed, and secured.

This wall was to be the location for the fancy new-
"One Handle Shower Valve".
This was meant to be installed through an access hole in the other side of the wall.
But here there was no such hole.
But Our Fuzz had a plan for that.
But first the supply lines needed to be put in.
New holes had been cut through the floor-
And new cut-offs put in under the trailer.
The lines were run with that pex pipe stuff.

Finally it was time for the sides of the shower!
First the base was secured with the provided clips.
Then came the back.

On the right, that black thing is the valve with it's protective cover.
Next the left side went in.
(All these pieces just lock together with tabs)
But now came the tricky part.
The Fuzz CAREFULLY measured (several times!) the place for the hole for that fancy "One Handle Shower Valve".
He used a hole-saw to make the cut, and that stuff was tough to cut through.

And amazingly...

It all fit!

Of course this job is far from finished...
But this Post is!

So keep checking Kinda Fuzzy;
The Fuzz promises to continue this tale next time.

Back To the Bathroom

Well...
The Fuzz wanted to get those last few pix of the Yankee Adventure up.  So that's finally done.
Now it's back to the work at hand.

Remember The Fuzz mentioning the latest project out here in the woods?
The Bathroom, of course!
Well, it is moving along...
a bit slowly...
but moving.

When we left Our Fuzz, he had removed the old Tub/Shower Combo-
And was left with this situation.
The brand new Replacement Shower was configured a bit differently of course.
#1.  The drain would have to be re-located.
#2.  Where as the bottom of the old bathtub was raised above the floor level, in the new walk-in shower it was at floor level.
So the existing drain line would have to be re-routed.
First The Fuzz figured out where the new line would come down.
The existing drain line would have to be cut.
This was easier said than done as it was impossible the get a hacksaw in the area.  And his pipe cutter was too small to handle the pipe.
So he resorted to this more compact saw.

And the cut was made.

A new elbow was installed.
Now the Floor would have to be addressed.
The shower would have to be raised, a bit above the existing floor;
(more about this later)
So he wanted a hole large enough to work in.
In this case the location was not real critical.
Then a framework for the shower was put together with 2X3's...
and screwed down to the floor joists...
and plywood cut to fit.
Next The Fuzz wrestled the shower base into the trailer-
which was an adventure in itself!
He used this to locate the more critical hole for the drain fittings.
First he traced the circle on to the plywood.
Of course the actual hole had to be a bit larger- but not too much.
So he found the center of the drain and marked the optimum size and location on the plywood.
Then test fitted the drain to the shower base...
and cut out the hole.
Then he wrestled that shower base into position...
And made sure it all would fit together.

We'll continue this project next time here at Kinda Fuzzy.
And, just so you know, it is still in progress...
But-
Progressing.

A Surprise Photo Op.

As was said, Our Fuzz and His Sweetie did get up quite early, and slipped off, heading for home.
They made it through the Albany area and swung down I 88 toward Binghamton, and I 81.

The Fuzz had taken the first shift at the wheel; then His Sweetie took over.
Then as he was "resting his eyes" His Sweetie got his attention.
This was what she had seen!
Of course they had to pull over for a better look!
They kept coming over the hills and the sky was filling up with these guys.
It was still pretty early,
(They had had a really early start- remember)

And the air was nice and calm.

So of course The Fuzz and His Sweetie dug out their cameras.

They started landing nearby.
So they got a closer look.
Here's a look inside the "bag".
And here's a look at the flames shooting up into one of them.
They both enjoyed this unexpected Photo Op;
But now they had to get back on the road again.

As you may know, The Fuzz has been back home in the woods for a while now.
But He had to get these pix up.
Hope they were enjoyed.

New York- In & Out

When we left Our Fuzz and His Sweetie last time, they had just crossed Lake Champlain into New York State.
It was still early that morning and they were in search for a bite of breakfast.
There didn't seem to be a whole lot to the town of Ticonderoga, but they did find this little cafe...
And had a pretty good Yankee Breakfast.

They were still a bit early for the reunion, so decided to hang out at Ticonderoga for a while.
There was a nice little park there-
With this old stone bridge.
This is a view from the top of a dam.
It doesn't look like much from here...
But when you figure in the waterfall under it, it is a bit more impressive.
And this dam is still being used ...
For a power plant!
There were large windows where one could see the generator...
And the water turbine inside.

And then it was time to get back on the road for the Cousins Reunion.

There is not much to post about the Reunion itself.
But it was great to see Kinfolks that The Fuzz hadn't seen for literally years.
Everyone just hung out there by the Schroon River.
And there was even a bit of Badminton that afternoon...
followed with a cook out supper.

The Fuzz and His Sweetie spent the night, then got up very early to hit the road, and head back south.
