Winter & Middle Earth

The Fuzz realizes this will not impress any of y'all Yankees out there, but it was just a wee bit on the cool side this morning.
This is a look at The Fuzz's Brand New Indoor/Outdoor Thermometer.
But that's OK. The plan for today, is our Annual Movie Blowout. This started several years ago with the original Star Wars Trilogy. This Year we're going for the Lord of the Rings!
There does seem to be a chance of snow tonight. We'll just have to see how that turns out. It certainly is cold enough.
But for now, it's off to Middle Earth!

A Pre-Blowout Post

Seems hard to make it on here lately. I don't really know why. Perhaps it's just that time of year- post holidays.
But for us it's not post-holiday any more. That's because this week is our Annual Movie Blowout!
In the past we have done stuff like the Star Wars Trilogy and Lord of the Rings. One year we got a bunch from the local Real to Reel Film Festival.
This year we plan to go with this BBC edition of Pride and Prejudice. It says on the box something about 300 minuets.
Let's see, 300 ÷ 60 = 5.
That's 5 hours of DVD glory.
This should keep us busy for a while.

The Fuzz wants to apologize for neglecting all his loyal readers the last few days. And just so we have something to look at, here's this slightly modified pix of some of the woods around here.

Snow and Other Things

They seem to be calling for Snow here tonight. The Fuzz says he'll believe it when he sees it. But then, we have seen it, sorta.

These white looking splotches are in fact Snowflakes! These actually fell from the sky this very morning.
Here is an even closer look. Note the little white specks sprinkled here on these bricks. This is real Snow. Unfortunately, (or fortunately, depending on your point of view) this was pretty much the extent of it. I'm afraid it stopped shortly after this picture was made.
But The Fuzz made a run out to the woods for a load of firewood just so we would be prepared. I realize my Yankee readers are probably scoffing at our diminutive dusting, but we have to make the best of things with what we've got.

You may remember the tale of the Gluttonous Goldfish. Well the situation hasn't changed. But The Fuzz was inspired to compose a tribute to this Foolish Fishy.

This weekend we had our Annual Movie Blowout. This year, we brought back the ever popular Star Wars Blowout. This was the original Blowout and we thought it was time to bring it back. I will say that we only watched episodes IV, V & VI, the real Star Wars Trilogy. I mean, what's with all that new stuff anyway? Do we really care about a remake of that Ben Hur chariot race anyway? Be that as it may, we did enjoy watching, snacking and all that stuff.

Waiting for the Rain, Again

Here's one of the visitors to our Source of Sunflower Seeds for the little Birdies, caught, in the very act of snatching the Munchie Morsel itself.

Things are pretty quiet around here.

We are hoping for some rain soon. Our National Weather Service keeps promising this, but I'm getting a bit skeptical about their abilities in this field.
For-
"Thursday: A chance of rain after 4pm. Increasing clouds, with a high near 46. East wind between 7 and 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40%. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible."
But better yet, check this out-
"Thursday Night: Periods of rain. Low around 36. East wind between 9 and 11 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New rainfall amounts between one and two inches possible."
If this were only so. The Fuzz's Well still only contains a pitiful puddle of water. We get by. We have our ways.
But this situation puts me in mind of one of the featured flicks of our recent Reel to Reel Movie Blowout. "Off the Grid: Life on the Mesa" portrayed a bunch of unusual people, living in the dessert, with very little water. Actually they were unusual in a number of ways, the lack of water being a minor thing. But watching this did take use back somewhat, to another time. It seems that The Fuzz and His Sweetie met, and bonded, in an "Off the Grid" sort of community, back in The Days. And in a lot of ways, that mentality remains. They have been accused of having a "Frontier Mentality" at times. And I suppose they are just a little bit, "Off the Grid" still.
Well, NC is not the dessert, yet. And The Fuzz is still hoping for some real rain this time. Maybe this time they've got it right.

Doorstops and Flicks

I found this thing out at the dump, or should I say "Landfill" a few years ago. Actually there were two of them. I grabbed them both. I'm not real sure what it is exactly (besides heavy). It looks like part of some huge transmission or something. You may wonder what a person would want with such as this. In our case, it makes a great Doorstop for a drafty house, even the cats can't move it. This is good because we can confine the Kitties' nocturnal mischief to a smaller area. Dumps used to be great places to find cool things and shoot rats and stuff. Now days, they're in such a hurry to cover everything up. But that, I suppose, is progress.

We did enjoy a bunch of "Blowout" movies from the Reel to Reel festival. The Fuzz recommends-

Unfortunately, I have no Idea where you can get them. But, if you get lucky and run up on a few, they're worth your time.

Reel to Reel Blowout

Well, it's that time again. Time for our annual Movie Blowout. Yes this weekend we will spend an entire day watching movies. In the past we have viewed the three original Star Wars, the Lord of the Rings, and last year, four Harry Potter flicks. But this year we are trying something different. Last summer, whilst we were suffering at the beach, we missed the Annual, Local, Reel to Reel Film Festival. And now, we discovered that we can borrow the flicks from the festival any time. In a brilliant move, The Fuzz's Sweetie slipped over to the Arts Council and borrowed a stack of the best of the best. So now we will have the best of both worlds, our Blowout, and the Film Festival, all in one exciting package.
The Fuzz has been busy with preparations for this exciting event. As a Christmas gift, The young'uns went in on a brand new Television set for The Fuzz and His Sweetie. This hole in the wall used to conceal a brick chimney. Some years ago, this chimney was the scene of one of those dreaded Chimney Fires. After that, The Fuzz was a little bit paranoid and replaced it with the fine Triple Wall Metal Chimney we use now. With much labor, and much sweat, he removed the bricks, and created this handy little nook in which to conceal VCR, DVD, TV and all the related paraphernalia. This wonderful, new, and considerably larger TV was a fine opportunity to modify and update this Home Entertainment Center. Here you can view the work in progress.
And now things are ready for the Blowout. It doesn't matter what the weather is like, 'cause this is an indoor thing, suitable for this time of year.

The Fuzz did take his pitiful little wheel in to the shop today. We hope the problem was solved, but he won't reinstall it until he is convinced the air is staying inside. We will keep all posted on this important matter.

Wedding Related Stuff II

It's always nice to be able to celebrate a wedding. Some people like to elope though, but I think we should still celebrate.

We took our time on the way up there, and even stopped off in the Big City. So the place was already decorated when we got there. Here you can see one of the Beautiful Women who were there, arriving. They had it fixed up pretty nice, and there was plenty of beer too.


There were candles on the tables and party lights too.


Here are the newlyweds cutting the cake.

I should probably explain the stuff on their heads. We all were requested to wear hats for this affair. I'm not sure how he got that chicken to sit still though.

The business with the cake did get a bit messy. I don't think I understand that part.



And what would be a wedding, without dancing.

Maybe it was the beer, but even The Fuzz got out there with His Sweetie.

But you won't get to see that. You would have had to be there. But I was there, I saw it myself.

We all had a pretty good time, and nobody called the cops.

Things were a little quieter in the morning. The balloons were a little droopier.



We spent the night there and all met for breakfast at a local restaurant. And then, it was time to head home.

It was a great time, and a chance to meet all the in-laws and outlaws.

Next up, Our annual trip to the Renaissance Fest, weather permiting.

Blowout Mystery Revealed

Yes ! It's Harry Potter !
And not only will we watch three big adventures, but we will attempt ALL FOUR ! This will not be easy being as we are mere muggles and have no time turner. But we did train for this, in a way, by watching all the Lord of the Rings last year. That was a project, but of course, well worth it. So today we will follow four years in the lives of the infamous Harry potter, Hermione Granger, Ron Weasely, and their many friends and enemies.

Eat your hearts out Yankees

Here are the little crocuses sprouting their tiny selves out of the front yard. Spring is on the way. Must be that global warming stuff, or I guess it's called "climate change" now. They are calling for cold weather later this coming week though. No snow yet, maybe none at all. Actually, it does snow here sometimes. I like to see it maybe one time each winter, reminds me of the old country.
Well, tomorrow is the Blowout. There is a tire dealer here that had a "blowout" sale a while back. I thought it was a poor choice of words. Our blowout is different, we watch three movies in a series back to back (actually we do stop to make popcorn, eat, get beer, and use the potty). We started this tradition with Star Wars, but we have used others. This year we have chosen...........
You'll just have to guess for now.
