A Medical Situation

Well, stuff happens as they say.  And sometimes it happens to The Fuzz.
It's no secret  that he has been cutting firewood for years, and that some of those chunks can get a bit heavy.
It is also a fact that Our Fuzz is a bit foolish at times, and has a tendency to not ask for help* when it would have been a good idea.
It turned out that what he tried to convince himself was only strain, wasn't going away.
And then the day came when he pushed on that little bulge and felt (and heard) something gurgle.
While discomforting, The Fuzz figured this was something he could live with as long as he was careful.
Eventually it was mentioned to His Sweetie, and passed on to other family.

That was when things hit the fan.
The family is large by contemporary standards and some members are or have been involved in the medical field.
The Fuzz started receiving phone calls...
long phone calls.
At this point His Sweetie became involved.

The Fuzz's view that people must have lived with these sort of things for thousands of years didn't seem to hold much weight.

In short...
He made an appointment with the surgeon.

And surgery was scheduled.

Well, it's been a couple of days now, and The Fuzz is glad to report that he is still living and beginning to move around a bit.

He regrets that there are no pictures, but perhaps that is for the best.
They wouldn't let him bring his camera, and besides he doesn't remember anything after being wheeled into the hallways himself.

So we'll just post a few more from the camping trip!

*It may be debated whether this is a macho thing or simply stupidity.

Not Quite Blind

Some readers may remember how The Fuzz or His Sweetie will spend a night over at the Old Place from time to time to keep their sanity.  Well, this was The Fuzz's turn.
With the colder weather he had decided to not ride over on his bike.  The arrangement was for His Sweetie to drop him off, and then in the morning pick him up.  Then, they would go for a fine breakfast at a local cafe.
Since it was a sunny day, Our Fuzz was wearing his cool shades on the way over.
His Sweetie was on a tight schedule, so they hurriedly unloaded some firewood from the car trunk, and she headed out.  It was only then that The Unfortunate Fuzz realized he was still wearing his shades.
This was fine in the bright sunlight, but sucked in the dim light inside.  The Old Place always has been a bit dark on the inside.
When he was unable to flag her down, The Fuzz tried his cell phone.  But the thing wouldn't work.
After a bit of frustration, he took out the card, cleaned it and then reinserted it.  Now at last the thing worked.
He had hoped to catch His Sweetie while she was still in town and she could drop off his real glasses, which were still in the car.
But alas, it was not to be.

So Our Fuzz resigned himself to an evening without glasses.
This may not seem like much to those blessed with the proverbial 20/20, but for The Fuzz, it was a significant thing.

The first thing, was of course a fire in the heater.
No Problem.
It's not like he is plumb blind or anything.

With a good fire going it was time for some dinner.
The Fuzz went for some spaghetti.
Here's a look at how wood heat can double as a cookstove.
The dinner was good, and he was also able to find his mouth without his spectacles.
The Fuzz did make it through the night okay.
After all, he can see his dreams well enough without their assistance.

Near Disaster

The Fuzz admits that it has been a while since he posted here at Kinda Fuzzy.  But he has not been just sitting on his hands all this time.
There was The Great Motorcycle Adventure of course.  Hopefully there will be more on that later.  This post concerns trees, and near disaster.
Not long before the previously mentioned Motorcycle Adventure, The Fuzz and His Sweetie ordered one of those metal carports.

Parking a white car under the trees (and birdies) gets a bit messy.  And of course there is the potential for falling limbs.  But a place would have to be prepared for it.
So a spot was selected near the Shed, where the car is usually parked.

But since we are in the woods here, it would be necessary to remove a few small trees, and one larger one (X).  Not wanting to drop this thing on the shed, and hoping to avoid getting it hung up in the woods, Our Fuzz resorted to a previously successful method, employing rope and his ragged old "come along".

Things started out well enough.  With His Sweetie's assistance, the tree was cut and started to fall in the chosen direction.
But there was a problem.  The tree hung up in another large tree across the driveway.
The Fuzz thought that a bit more tension on the rope should pull this stubborn thing free and onto the ground in the desired place.
Now came the 2nd hitch.
The Fuzz tightened this rig up about as much as he dared, with no success.  So he decided to move the rope and all, to another tree, so to get a better angle for dislodging this stubborn thing.

But as he was slowly easing the tension off, the gears in this ragged piece of equipment slipped, tearing open Our Poor Fuzz's hand!
At this point, The (now) Safety Minded Fuzz would like to point out that gloves would be a good idea for anyone involved in a similar project.

With this tree still hung up like this, The Fuzz felt that leaving it in this condition could be dangerous.  So His Sweetie wrapped up his mangled paw, and he went back to work.
By moving this rig to various anchor points, and finally even using that poor little Accord, they managed to finally get the tree unhung from where it was - And into another tree!

In the end The Fuzz was forced to cut this 2nd tree as well.
This resulted in both trees now blocking the driveway.
Well, at least they were on the ground.
Now it was time to have a look at the hand.
The squeamish may want to skip this part.

Mysterious Vine

Recognize this luxuriant vine clubbing the lucky tree?

Yup.  You guessed it.

This is a story of some young'uns some years ago.  At that time, before the Encroach of Civilization, The Old Place was a bit less urbanized than now.  Behind the wooded patch of backyard lay a horse pasture.  It was great fun to feed the horseys carrots and such.  One day it was discovered that the horseys found this particular type of vine rather tasty.  It was gathered in great handfuls, and devoured with much enthusiasm by these beasts.  It was only later that the identity of the vegetation was discovered by the unlucky children, furnishing a never to be forgotten lesson.

"...Beyond My Lifetime..."

The Fuzz sees that the Space Shuttle Endeavour is heading to LA.

Unfortunately, this is bad news for the Tree Huggers.

"Trees that interfere with the shuttle will have to be removed, and some residents are upset.

"'They are cutting down these really big, majestic trees," Lark Galloway-Gilliam, a longtime resident and neighborhood council director told the L.A. Times. "It will be beyond my lifetime before they will be tall like this again."
"The California Science Center said they would replant twice as many trees along the route, to replace those that will be chopped down."

That's right thoughty of 'em.

The Fuzz has been known to do a bit of Tree Hugging himself at times.  But once they're gone, they're gone.  At least like the man said,
"...beyond my lifetime..."

Spider Adventures 3

While The Fuzz was working at the kitchen sink the other day, he was able to document this gruesome affair.
It seems that this unfortunate wasp had the misfortune to blunder into the deadly web The little spider would move in, and the wasp would run him off.
In vain the wasp fanned it's wings, trying to break free. It looked as if he was destined to the fate of other unfortunates. But The Fuzz has been stung too many times to feel much sympathy for these vicious little things. It took a while, but in the end it was another "wrap". Here, our spider ally has been joined by one of it's little buddies.

Left Behind

Has this ever happened to anyone you know?

The Fuzz realizes that these things can happen on occasion.
Sometimes them Young'uns is hard to keep up with!

Lawn Care Continued

In our last post, we mentioned a problem The Fuzz was having with some obstacles in his attempts at yard work.
He decided to make another foray into this field. This time he would use his trusty Weedwacker to clear things out. This thing was made for this sort of work.
After driving into town, he fired it up, only to discover that a key piece of this machine was missing.
You can see that the little knob that holds the spool on, is simply not there!
You will also see the fine dependable device that Our Fuzz finally used to accomplish his purpose.
Sometimes Old School is the best school.

Lawn Care

The Fuzz has been having a string of bad luck lately with his equipment.
If you look closely at the pix to the right, you may see one of his problems*.

And here is a closer look.
This was in an area, formerly used as a garden The pipes helped support some timbers used for terracing on the hill. Our Fuzz was over at the Old Place, trying to get this area under control, when his trusty lawnmower found this pipe.
Of course things came to an abrupt stop.

Alas, the shaft was bent. Not one to give up easily, Our Determined Fuzz decided that he could still use this machine until it died completely.
This happened sooner than he expected. This last pix is the soccer ball that was waiting in ambush. This time the Key in the flywheel apparently sheered throwing everything out of time.
It seems The Fuzz is in the market for some new lawn equipment.

*There are more to come!

Sad Situation

Here we see a sad situation.
We did have a bit of rain here. Our Patio Tarps had been getting a bit saggy lately. The ropes had deteriorated a good bit from the sun. The extra weight of the rain water was just too much.
Our Fuzz tried to tie this mess back up, but it was a lost cause.
But not to worry. The Fuzz has plans to replace these pitiful pieces of rope with steel cables!

Bit Of A Bummer

"Fleet of Ferraris Ruined in Sports Car Freeway Pileup in Japan"
(From Fox news)

"An outing of luxury sportscar enthusiasts in Japan ended in an expensive freeway pileup -- smashing a stunning eight Ferraris, a Lamborghini and two Mercedes likely worth more than $1 million together."

"...a used Ferrari in Japan can fetch $100,000 or more..."

Oh Well.

Hot Stuff

We haven't had much luck with our peppers the last couple of years.
We tried growing them over at the Old Place. There was a problem with deer. But this year has been different. We have deer out here in the woods. But we also have Dogies!
Here's a look at some of the Habaneros.
The Fuzz chopped some up the other night for our Buritos.
When one does this sort of thing, one must be careful not to rub one's eyes, or any such thing. One time we were cooking up some hot sauce with these things. The Fuzz was foolish enough to step out to answer nature's call. He has been careful not to repeat this mistake ever since.

More Troubles

This is The Fuzz's Motorcycle. It is on a trailer. Is it on it's way to a fancy Bike Show? No, it is not. In fact it is on the trailer because it is not going anywhere. At least on it's own.
The Fuzz took a quick ride up to the local Dollar General Store for some macaroni. While he was there, he saw a $5 DVD of Master and Commander, which he also bought. But when he attempted to return to His Home In The Woods, his motorcycle would not crank! There was a good chance that the problem was a mere fuse, located in a fuse box behind the headlight. There are even spare fuses there for just such situations. But as can be seen, 50% of the screws to said fuse box, were buggered to the point that he could not get into the thing. The Fuzz was forced to call His Sweetie to rescue him with a trailer. He made several attempts to get this annoying screw out, but in the end he was just screwed. The thing was simply too screwed up to screw around with any more. The Poor Fuzz was forced to leave it all for another day when he would have access to better equipment .

You've Got Mail

Regular readers of this blog may remember how The Fuzz's weekend was negatively affected by an encounter with a Big Red SUV. Well, the day the Police Report came out, he found a full mailbox.Apparently The Fuzz had become quite popular! At least with the local lawyers. The one with the pretty colors is from a chiropractor.
Well, at least it wasn't bills.
We're glad to report that although there is still a ways to go, The Fuzz is on the mend. God willing, he hopes to be back at work next week. For now, he's doing what he can to get this Sliding Glass Door Project
finished up.

Warning, Graphic Images!

Yes, unfortunately this is exactly what it looks like. In our previous post (the Fuzz seems to be neglecting things here) we introduced 3 new kitties. Well, it seems that things have taken a turn for the worse. Shortly after introducing these little pests to their new home, The Fuzz and His Sweetie decided to have dinner in our wonderful Out Door Dining Area.
After a delightful meal, upon entering the trailer, The Fuzz noticed a peculiar odor. It seems that our fuzzy little friends had been busy. Very busy. There was poo on the bedroom floor. There was poo on the living room floor. But what finally did it, was the poo on The Fuzz's bed.
Needless to say, these kitties have become Outside Kitties!

Gross Tooth Post (Warning, Graphic Pix)

The Fuzz's Back is pretty much functioning once again. He did manage to get back to work. But there was a new problem.
It so happened that on one of those evenings when he was laid up with his back, His Sweetie offered him a piece of Delicious Chocolate. As he was munching on this tasty treat, he asked, "Are there nuts in this?"
When he investigated further, the "nut" turned out to be a piece of tooth. And so today, it was time for a trip to the Tooth Dentist.
(The Fuzz apologizes for this graphic image, but it was necessary to illustrate the seriousness of the situation.)
But as can be seen, this sad situation has now been satisfactorily resolved.

Still Still Here

We survived that big storm the other day. But it seems to that time of year again. Another one came though yesterday evening. This time it didn't get our High Quality Tarps. You can see some of the smaller debris laying on them.
The Hail that accompanied this storm was a bit rough on the Dogwoods though.
The Fuzz had to go out to pick up that Young Daughter after a party.
Fortunately, things had pretty much let up by then. He did drive though an area where the power was out, but we never lost ours out here in the woods.
There was a trailer that flipped over with 3 people in it. (Read it here)
Well, today the sun is out again.

Sickie

The Fuzz has been feeling a bit puny lately.
But this has given His Sweetie an opportunity to take on the roll of Nurse Stimpy.
It began at the start of the week with a scratchy throat. Tough guy that he is, he decided to just, "tough it out".
Even though he was starting to feel like crap, that loyal Fuzz still went in to work on Thursday.
But by Thursday evening, he felt more like this little guy.
We did feel it best to cancel our planned family gathering for tonight.
It was out of the desire to not pass this around any more.
We are glad to report, that as a result of this TLC, he is feeling a little better now.
He even felt up to this brief post.

Marching Band Competition

Here they come, marching in.The Fuzz's Sweetie really gets off on the annual band competition. But,it seems like every year, something would come up, and we couldn't make it over there for it.But, this year, we finally made it.
Here's some pix of some of the bands.

Well, there seems to be some sort of situation here on Blogger. The fuzz is unable to load up the couple more pix he had for this post. But rather than postponing it all, he decided to go with what we have here.
Happy Wednesday!

Poor Thing

He finally slipped up.
This little guy had been a pest for too long. He seemed to be fond of going though the kitchen drawers every night. That would have been OK if he hadn't been leaving little presents for us.
The Fuzz's Sweetie finally figured out that he was enjoying the little doggy treats. They are what the little doggies do their little tricks for each morning.
The Fuzz thinks that this diminutive rodent was hoping to evade the our feline friends by somehow picking up a few canine traits. What ever his intent, it failed, as is evedent from these photos. Above is exhibit A, below exhibit B.
Poor Thing.
