A Peek at Springtime

Just a little look at what's to come.

A Hopeful Sign

While The Fuzz was out in the Woods the other day doing a bit of work in his shop…

He noticed these little guys.

Perhaps Spring is on the way!

Sure, it will be a while yet, but this is a hopeful sign.

It has been a rough winter for The Fuzz, but this is not the place to go into that now.

But this first little sign of Spring is an encouraging thing.

Spring Now - Summer Soon

With warmer weather here now- like in the 80's, summer seems near for sure.

There's a lot going on getting the yard up for the season.

This shrub was growing just across the fence at the old place.  The Fuzz's Sweetie liked it so much she brought a piece to root out here in the woods.

It seems to be doing quite well.

Don't know the name...

But it is pretty!

We have a lot of these wild roses out here.

Really, it's a job to keep them trimmed back.

And there the not-so-wild ones as well.

The Fuzz is a sucker for trying to photograph these things...

So here we go.

And then, a couple more.

A Breezy Afternoon

After his Sunrise Morning Excursion, The Fuzz pretty much holed up back at the Hotel.

It was cold out there.

But by the evening he was ready to give it another go.  So he bundled up, and headed back to the beach.

With all the wind, the sea was kinda rough.

But that wasn't stopping the birdies.

The Fuzz has a thing for trying to catch those guys in flight.

And they were out there right in the surf.

While he was out, he decided to check out the other side of town.

For those who might be unfamiliar with Topsail Beach...

There's not really that much to it.

Of course, that is part of the attraction - at least for The Fuzz.

The "other side of town" is the "Sound" side of the island.

It's a whole different thing.

More birdies, but less flying.

But by now it was getting late and more rain was moving in.

So it was back to the Hotel for The Fuzz.

One More Sign

It's always nice to find another sign of spring this time of year.

We have had a lot of wind lately.

In fact it caused some trouble for family over in Concord NC.

But out here in the woods The Fuzz made out okay.

In fact it was the wind that brought  these guys to his attention.

Whilst walking up to check the mail he found these little buds on the ground.

They're not quite all the way open, but Red Maple blossoms are a sure sign of spring!

The Fuzz thinks that here in NC we get our March Winds just a little earlier than all those Yankees.  But that means Spring is on the way.

And The Fuzz and His Sweetie are hoping to get a little pre-season beach time in soon.
So that situation with the pump will just have to wait.

So... What happened to Spring?

So what did happen to spring?

Well, apparently it's not here yet.

The Fuzz admits to being a little disappointed.

But then, it is still the middle of February.

A Good Sign

Well, a few days ago we had the Crocus.

And now...

This!

The Fuzz just has a good feeling about this.
A great way to start off this new month.

It's Not So Bad...

We have had a little taste of winter lately.  But it wasn't all that bad here in the woods.

Though the Fuzz did see where some folks weren't so lucky.

But here is a little sign that Spring is not so far off!

The Fuzz was a little surprised to see these guys, but one must admit, it is an encouraging sign.

Not So Lazy Day

It was another nice Spring day here in the woods.

But there was work to do.

All that wood still had to be split!

The Fuzz had considered splitting it before hauling it out of the woods.

It would have been easier to move that way.

But he did make the right choice in bringing it out first.

Because of this guy!

It was a bit hard to get cranked, but eventually it fired up.

The thing's not too fond of cold mornings, and we still have them, kinda.

That wood was pretty tough, and it would have been an ordeal splitting it in the old school manner.

There's nothing like Power Equipment in a situation like that.

The Fuzz and His Sweetie also took advantage of the nice weather to clean out the wood stove and smoke pipe.

That should take care of these things till they're not needed anymore.

Spring is here and Summer is on the way.

Lazy Spring Day

Well, we did have a couple of cold days here.

But then it is still March.

Some of the critters were just lazing around in this nice Spring weather.

This one fell asleep in the dinner bowl.

Nobbie is the "Grande Dame" of our little dog pack here in the woods.

However,  this is not her dinner bowl-

or her dog house.

These belong to Lucy, the youngest and littlest member of the pack.

So she is holed up on the porch.

Nobbie has few teeth left, and is def as a post.

But she still seems to be able to get her way.

But it was too nice a day to spend inside anyway.

It was the kind of day to just lay around and enjoy life.

However, The Fuzz had to cut a bit more firewood... 

just to make sure.

He found another nice dead oak in the woods down near the creek.

So he got out the old chainsaw.

He had to roll the wood back in the wheelbarrow, and it was a lot of work.

But then,

It was a good day for that too!

To Cut or Not

The Fuzz was out in the yard and noticed that the wood pile was getting a little low again.

This is the sort of thing that happens this time of year of course.

This raises the question wether to cut more, or not.

How much longer till warm weather?

Well, there have been some signs of Spring.

There's been the Daffodils  and crocus.

And now...

Peaches !

We haven't had a particularly hard winter around here,

but it will be good to see the Springtime.

Just a Word

Well, once again it's been a while.

The Fuzz has been busy,

but that's not really blogging material.

As for today, it is a rainy day here in the woods.

But thankfully not freezing cold.

Still, a gloomy day.

But...

Spring is on the way!

And The Fuzz and His Sweetie are ready for it!

The Kitchen Project is still not quite finished of course.

The window trim remains.

But That Lazy Fuzz has at least made a start.

He did manage to cut out a window sill.

The rest will come eventually.

Then, it should be time for some outside projects.

And His Sweetie has a great one in the queue.

But we'll get to that when we get to it!

So at least for now...

More Signs of Spring

Out here in the woods, we are just a bit behind town spring wise.  But the Dogwoods are beginning to bloom.

The Fuzz is fond of these little guys.

And in another sign of things to come,

The Fuzz had to get out the ol' lawnmower today!

No Shade

The weather is finally getting warm here.  This is a kinda awkward time of Spring for us.  The sun is out and quite warm, but since there are no leaves as yet on the trees- there is no shade !

These Dafidills are on the way out.

But now we have a Tulip to make up for it.

It's Springing

Y'all yankees might laugh about The Fuzz's little problem with his porch roof.  But things are getting better around here.

It was still cold when The Fuzz and His Sweetie took a stroll down by the river.

But they saw this Red Maple budding out.

Spring is on the way.

And now in thee last couple of days-

We have these!

The Fuzz has been working in the yard in his T-shirt.

Admittedly, he was splitting firewood.

But soon there will be no need for that chore.
