Across New England

The Fuzz had a Cousins Get Together over in upstate New York on the coming weekend.
So he and His Sweetie packed up their camp there in Maine, and headed west.
They had decided to avoid the freeways and enjoy the countryside.
And the plan was to stop at a motel for the night, rather then having to set up camp, only to break it in the morning.
Lunchtime found them over in New Hampshire.

They found a nice place off of the road to stop for a break.
Then it was back on the road.

As happens sometimes, it was taking a bit longer than expected to get to their planned destination.
But then, there was no exact destination in mind, just someplace close to the New York border.
As it began to grow late, they were hoping to find a small motel for the night.
But these small towns didn't really have any motels.
Eventually, they came out on one of the main roads, and found...
The Sugar House
Motel!
Nothing fancy, of course.
But they were actually able to open the windows for some fresh air.
There was no restaurant, and they had no desire to get back in the car.  But there was still a bit of grub left in the cooler, not to mention a bottle of wine.
So they did alright; planning on stopping for breakfast in the morning.
When it got light, they found this Rolls Royce in the parking lot.
Now it was time to head over to New York, and the Reunion.
Looking at the map, they saw a place to cross Lake Champlain...
by Ferry!
Now that would be cool.
They drove to Shoreham, on the east shore of Champlain.
The Ferry crosses over to Ticonderoga, in New York.

There is a whole Historical Thing here, involving the French & Indian Wars - and the American Revolution;
But we won't get into that here.
The Fuzz and His Sweetie were only here to ride the Ferry...
and find some breakfast.

So they drove onto the boat...
and paid the 10 bucks.

It doesn't take long to cross the narrow lake.
Here you can see the cable that guides the Ferry across.

Then it was into the little town of Ticonderoga, to look for a cafe.

Last Day At Recompence

On their last day here, The Fuzz and His Sweetie took a little walk.
The next day would be spent on the road again.

They got a last look at the scenery

And they found these two perched on a stone wall in somebody's yard.
Nice one.
The Fuzz was up early the next morning.
We told you these guys were everywhere.
There were 3 of them, and they were acting hungry.
So The Fuzz gave them a bit of granola to munch on.
Guess he's just a softy at heart.

Then it was time to pack up their gear, and get on the road.
There was a long ride ahead.

A Quiet Morning

Both The Fuzz and His Sweetie are early risers these days.
At home it is usually His Sweetie first.
But when camping, it tends to be The Fuzz.
He thinks it may be something about a campfire and a cup of coffee.

But be that as it may...

There was still one more day here in Maine, before heading east to New York State.  And The Fuzz was up before sunrise again.
He decided this would be a good time to slip down to the shoreline with his camera, and see what he would find.
The tide was out of course,
and these guys weren't going anywhere.

But The Fuzz was looking for the sun...
Who finally made an appearance.
But not everyone was high and dry.
As the sun climbed higher into the morning sky,
It was time for a bit of breakfast.
And The Fuzz thought so too;
And so began to head back to camp.
We told you these guys were everywhere!
By now, it was pretty much daylight.
It had been a nice morning already.
But it was time for The Fuzz to go and get a bite, himself.

The Fuzz enjoyed this little bit of Maine.
In fact, he would love to come back some time.
But let's face it;
It is a long way from his home in the North Carolina Woods!

And yet...
maybe someday...

After all, who knows what the future will bring?

Bit of Update

While We have been posting (when we actually do post) mostly about The Fuzz and His Sweetie's travels this summer;
There have been other things going on out here in the woods.
This...
for one thing.
There had been a litter of kittens needing a home.
And Our place out here in the woods is kinda Kitty Friendly.
There's plenty of room for play...
and kitty-type adventure.
And so The Fuzz and His Sweetie now have these Twins joining the rest of the Feline Festivities.

And that is not all!
Since the demise of 2/3 of the Dog Pack;
(they suspect foul play)
The Fuzz-
and especially His Sweetie- have been looking for another pup.
Searching the papers seems to only turn up those $200-400 High-Dollar Doggies.
This was not what they had in mind.
And they are both of the opinion that a Mixed Mutt makes the best yard dog anyway.

So it was time to begin a more concentrated search.
And it turned out that right out here, in the woods, one of the neighbors had this guy!
He seems to be the grandson of our own, lamented Buddha, himself.
He's a bit older than one usually looks for in a puppy, but that should be okay.
He is actually a very timid fellow,
and is still a bit homesick.
It will take some time of course,
but he is beginning to come out a bit.

Here is Pocky hiding from the rain in his doghouse.

Next time we'll get back to a bit more of The Fuzz's Yankee Adventures.

A Botanical Break

The afternoon was wearing on; and if The Fuzz and His Sweetie were going to make it to their next stop, they would have to get a move on.
And the next stop was...

With this sort of thing what can be said?
So We'll just post some pix.

This was pretty impressive...

Quite possibly the best that The Fuzz has seen...
in his limited Botanical Garden Experience.

And there were a number of these Kinetical Stainless Steel Sculptures around the garden.

Wind Power,
Pretty Cool?

There seemed to be a lot of these little guys everywhere The Fuzz went.

The Fuzz and His Sweetie could have spent a lot more time here.
With only an hour till closing time, all they really got was a quick overview of it all.

Then it was back to their camp.

And Even More Touristing

If you recall, before The Fuzz and His Sweetie had left Freeport, one of the other campers had suggested Camden as a destination.  So that was where Our Touristers went next.
It was quite a bit different than Port Clyde.
There was no doubt a lot to see there, but it was getting on in the afternoon now.
Not really knowing what else to do, The Fuzz found the way to the harbor.
It was pretty crowded, but they lucked up and found a place to park.
"Crowded" also referred to the harbor itself.
There were a couple schooners there...
but they were tied up.

It was getting on in the day, and The Fuzz and His Sweetie were getting hungry by now.  And there was still another stop planned for the return trip.
So they found a Pub/Restaurant and grabber a bite and a beer.

Travel is filled with new experiences and this place was no exception.
This was the first time The Fuzz had ever encountered a TV in the bathroom.
Perhaps some of the patrons don't read so well.

After a nice lunch, the touristers headed back toward Freeport, and a stop at the Botanical Gardens.

More Touristing

Looking at their map, Our Intrepid Tourists had seen the Owl's Head Lighthouse.
That looked like a good pick for their next stop.
They had a nice ride on back roads across to the Owls Head Lighthouse at the Owls Head State Park.

At the parking lot, The Fuzz saw this sign.
But there were no Baby Seals.
It must have been the wrong time of year.

But...
On the walk out to the lighthouse, The Fuzz did get a shot of this Schooner in the distance.
It wasn't far to the Lighthouse.

And there was a nice view from it.
And The Fuzz got another shot of that schooner.
And unlike his trip this Spring, this time, they actually got up into the Lighthouse!
Here's a look at the fascinating lens.
This is the original lens, that was used when the only light was from a whale oil lamp.  That is pretty amazing, how these lenses could concentrate that light enough to be seen far out to sea.
Of course now it's electric.
And here's one last look from the Lighthouse toward Rockland Harbor.

But alas, still no crashing waves!
