Cat Poetry Link
You may remember our popular "Cat Poetry*" collection.
Well, this is not a "Kinda Fuzzy" exclusive.
Here we present a link to even more exciting Cat Poetry, courtesy of that infamous,

More on the Floor
Whilst we are concerned with issues of floors and such, The Fuzz has also been involved in his own small way. I'm not sure if it had been mentioned before, but among the various other repairs needed to bring this trailer up to our High Standards, were some concerning the floors.
In all honesty, The Fuzz has been a little hesitant to tackle this. But with His Sweetie already at work, it was time to take action. So far, she had worked around these bad spots but time was running out for The Fuzz.
He had drilled a sort of "probing" hole in one of the worst spots and measured the thickness of the plywood. It seemed to be 3/4". And so, having a couple good sized pieces of 3/4" left over from a previous project, he took a deep breath and got out the skill saw.
Once he got the hole cut, he found that the 3/4" was not, in fact 3/4", but more like 5/8". This could be a problem. But after a moment of disgust and discouragement, he checked under the trailer and found that the plywood previously used for The Piano Move was actually the right size!
And so, he cleaned up the hole and added some bits of 1x4 around the edges for support. Finally he cut a new piece to fit and screwed it all together.
Here it is ready for His Sweetie to add her own special touch.

Fantastic Floor Finish
In the midst of all this busyness of what is a sort of continuous move, The Fuzz's Sweetie has been busy with her own "Home Improvements".
She does most of the interior decorating, which amounts to a lot of painting and such. We had (at one time) hoped to cover the plywood flooring with some tongue and grove pine boards, but with so many other things needed, the budget would not handle it. But that talented and resourceful woman came up with a better plan. Here's a look at some of the work in progress.
These first 3 are in the Livingroom.
First, she filled some of the worst dings with wood filler, and then, added some leftover wall paint for a bit of color. The next step was to add the designs.
(Very time consuming)
She did this with a small brush and some wood stain.
This is then covered with several coats of varnish.
This last 1 is in the Bedroom. This is not all finished yet, but we hope to get it done before it turns cold since it requires good ventilation.
In a couple weeks (weather permitting) we hope to get a new roof on. And sometime soon, The Fuzz will have to get a flue pipe of some sort put up for the heater.
And that's a look at what we've been up to lately.

Old & New
Here's a look a the old landfill. As you can see, it's quite a hill now. Note the tiny trucks* up there. That hill was once a pretty deep hole.
It does have it's good points, there's a pretty good view from the top.And here's a look at the new one. The Fuzz has added a few notes here. At A is another look at the old one, as seen from the new. That structure at B actually has nothing to do with either landfill. It is a chicken feed place over by the railroad. And at C you can see some of the liner.
The Fuzz got these pix the other day, before all the rain started. But it looks like we might see the sun a little in a couple days.
We are pretty much moved into our new place now. It's starting to seem like home. It seems just a little strange to be at the old house now.
Wow, a new landfill and a new home. Odd that it's happening at the same time, but I don't think it means anything in particular.
*As usual, click on the pix for a closer look!

From The Woods (At Last)
Yes! at last, this is our 1st post from out here in the Woods! This is what we've been working toward all this time- over a year now. There's been a lot of plans made (like that at the right) and a lot of work done. And there's still a lot to do. But here we are finally out here in the woods.
We're also in the mud. It's been raining for close to a week now. But we are getting settled in and it's beginning to seem like home. Here's a look at some bread The Fuzz's Sweetie baked out here in the woods. If you got fresh bread, you know you're OK.
Yummy.
The Cable Guy came today and got us hooked up. So from now on The Fuzz will be posting on location among these trees (and mud).

The New Landfill
They've opened the new land fill, sort of.
We are still weighing in at the old scale.
But then, we drive over to the new landfill to dump.
But then, we drive over to the new landfill to dump.
Here's a look at the new scale which is not open yet.Pretty spiffy!
I guess this is what you call progress and all that.
But the old place had gone from being a hole in the ground to a rather large hill. It was time to move on. It's a little farther to drive to, but not much, really. And of course- it's "state of the art"!
Do to the wonders of modern technology, when you see this, The Fuzz will actually be kicked back out there in the woods! But we hope to soon have the best of both worlds as we get settled in to the new place.

Hayfields and Other Stuff
Caught this pix of a hayfield near the new place on the way home the other day.
It's about 8 mi into work in the morning. The other day, riding the bike in, just before sunrise, there were patches of fog in the low places in the fields. That's much nicer than riding though town. Today it was raining. The Fuzz rode in with His Sweetie in the car.
We're halfway moved in, and halfway not moved in these days. It's a process, but the woods are beginning to seem a bit more like home.

Thoughts on Moving
Wind Chime
This is a wind chime at the old house. It's just one of the many things that remain to make the move to the new place. This will take a lot of time, but will eventually happen. For now, we are sorta in between, one day here, one day there. There's still a lot of "improvements" needed at the new place, much painting and some floor work to be done. But it is livable. I'm not sure when one could say we've "moved in". It seems to be a gradual process this time. In the past, when we've had to move, it has all happened at once. This time there is no "deadline", it's just a gradual sort of thing. Each day we move a bit more. We started out there using our "2nd string" camping equipment for cooking and such, now it's getting to be the other way around. I guess a big milestone will be when we get our "land line" and Internet at the trailer. And even that is in the works. But then, we have to take the adventure that comes to us.

A Walk Up The Hill
We've been working pretty steady trying to get the trailer in shape to live in. So for the Long Weekend we wanted a little break. We packed a lunch and headed out to the near by South Mt State Park. This is a view from the Possum Trail, headed up the mountain. This is from closer to the top of the ridge.
We had a good time. We were a bit tired at the end, but it was a nice change.

Rain vs Windows
As we were learning the ins & outs of this new sort of life, we found that we couldn't keep our windows open during rain storms. Unlike our old house, the trailer has no eaves, and so the water ran down the walls and into the windows. I suppose this is because the extra width would preclude towing on narrow roads. This probably wouldn't matter much under drought conditions, but thankfully we are not under drought conditions these days.
This was "unacceptable", but unlike in politics, we actually tend to do something about "unacceptable" situations besides talk.
So once again The Fuzz went to work.
We had a fair amount of this flashing left from when we did the skirting, so he decided to use it to make some awnings over these windows.
*First, he cut some triangle pieces of scrap 2x6, and mounted them over the windows. Next he took a piece of a discarded (it was very ugly) cabinetry and made a cross piece to support the flashing.
He smeared "tar" on the area where the flashing would meet the wall and cut some flashing to fit. He then made the appropriate bend in it and stapled & nailed it in place. On the narrower window (left) he dispensed with the cross piece and simply added a bottom crease to hold it in shape. He then went back and added another coating of "tar" to seal and reinforce it all.
There are still a couple more to do, but so far it seems to be working out pretty good and we can leave these windows open when it rains. Here's a look at some of them. We are hoping to put a new roof with some eaves on soon. That should keep most of the rain off of the walls.
The Fuzz's Sweetie has been doing some unique work on the floors. We'll try to get some pix up soon. We are slowly moving in, but it will be a process, some days at the old place, and some at the new. But we are getting used to being out there, and soon we hope to be posting from our New Home in the Woods.
