Falls Park on the Reedy

Another year had flown by for The Fuzz.  At this point it's no big deal.  Turning 18 might be - or 21 to be sure.  But that was a long time ago.  And at Our Fuzz's time of life - it's just one more.
Still....

This day only comes once a year and His Sweetie asked him if he wanted to do anything special to mark the occasion.
After some thought he mentioned a movie he had been wanting to see, and if it was in town, he would kinda like that.  But, being a "limited release" of course it wasn't.
That's one drawback to living out here in the country.

But she had been wanting to take him down to South Carolina ever since she had been to Greenville with some of her friends.  So she suggested that he check online to see if it was playing there.
Having internet makes living in the sticks not quite as bad as some might expect.
Greenville S.C. is a pretty big place, The Fuzz would call it a "Big City".  And the flick was playing there.  And they both enjoyed it.

But that's not the subject of this post.

One reason His Sweetie wanted to get The Fuzz down there was to see Falls Park.
And it was worth the trip.
The Park is right there in the middle of the Big City.

This will be mostly pix-
In case you haven't guessed that by now.
Like a lot of American cities this one was originally built along the Reedy River which provided a handy source of power.
And like a lot of other places, when industrialization came, this area went down.

But as can be seen, eventually people realized what they had lost and decided to try and turn things around.
But why "Falls Park"?
Of Course!
These next shots of the falls were made from the Liberty Bridge.
This is a cool suspension across the gorge with a great view.
And...
The Fuzz had to get a few pix of the bridge as well.
It seems to be a pretty popular place.
And interesting with the curve...
And the cables.
Falls Park is a nice place to pass an afternoon.
The gardens are beautiful.
This small stream flows in from one side.
How about these natural stone stairways?
Then it was time for a burger & beer before getting back to the woods, and home.

Wheat Field

While The Fuzz and His Sweetie were out for a morning walk out here in the country, he stopped to admire this wheat field.
And since he did have his camera, he couldn't resist a pix!

Island Sunrise #7

The Fuzz says there might be a few more of these coming.

Quickie Mountain Trip

The Fuzz was just hanging out here in the woods, puttering around in the shop while His Sweetie was visiting with a friend up near the mountains.
When she got back she had a proposition for him.
Since it was such a beautiful day, why didn't they ride up to Black Mountain, and spend the night?
She had been talking to another friend the day before who had recommended the "Red Rocker Inn" to her.  And with nothing else on the schedule this would be a great opportunity to get away for a quick mountain holiday.
Now The Fuzz has not been know for his spontaneity in the past, but he is trying to do better.  And after a little online investigation the idea began to grow on him.
So a phone call was made and a room was available.  So they hurriedly threw some clothes in their bags and took off.

When they got there they found it was a pretty nice place.
They checked in and had a look around.
And there really are "Red Rockers".

And there is a restaurant as well.
It looked pretty good.

But The Fuzz and His Sweetie already had other "dinner" plans.

They had stopped on the way into town and picked up a few things to snack on that evening...

Maybe next time.

Maybe for sure.

They had a "light meal" with some bread, oil olives and a bit of cheese.
And of course the wine.
Then it was time to kick back a bit.
Until it was time to walk into town...
To the White Horse.

In their online investigations they had discovered that this evening, at the White Horse, would be jazz by
"The Asheville Art Trio".
They got there just in time to get a glass of wine for His Sweetie, and some of that Green Man Porter for The Fuzz.
Then it was time for the music.
It was excellant.
Then it was back to their room and bed.

The Red Rocker Inn is one of those Bed & Breakfast places.  And the breakfast was outstanding.
Later in the morning The Fuzz had a chance to wander around a bit with his camera.
The grounds are lovely too.
He saw this artist at work out there.

But it was time to check out now.

Since they were already so close, they had decided to go on into Asheville for some things they couldn't get at home.  That is one downside of living out in the woods.
Asheville is a Big City-
At least to The Fuzz.
But the skyline is nice.

Of course it's not New York or Chicago, but that's a good thing.
From the parking deck The Fuzz's Sweetie drew his attention to this nearby building.
You don't see much of this kind of detail on buildings these days.
And The Fuzz kinda liked this one also.

But now it was time to head back down the mountain, and home.

Still Horsing Around

But a couple mornings later the weather had improved a bit.

Like we said before, this can be a nice little walk.
You may recognize this house.
This is just at sunrise.
The sun was actually coming out...
And shining into the barn.
It made for a pretty little photo op.
And on the way home, another little treat!
(Sorry, but this was the best The Fuzz could do with his pocket camera.)
The Fuzz wonders what it would be like to be up there.  But of course he has yet to have that experience.
Then, after watching for a while, it was time to head back down into the woods again.

Horsing Around

It may be remembered that in the past The Fuzz and His Sweetie have kept an eye on a friend's horses (and cat) while she was out of town.
Actually this is a mutually beneficial araingement.  This friend was the one who took care of The Fuzz and His Sweetie's critters whilst they were down on the coast for a month!
Well, it was her turn to take off for a few days, and The Fuzz was happy to return the favor.
However, His Sweetie would be out of town herself at an other event.  So Our Fuzz would be without transportation, other than his 2 feets.
But, not really a problem.
Her place was only perhaps a mile away- and a pleasant walk at that.

The 1st morning turned out to be a bit wet with a good bit of rain during the night.  But it did slack off in time for the morning walk.
There were still a lot of heavy clouds a bit of drizzle and a good chance of more rain.
A bit of fog was hanging in the low places as he walked over.
This place seems kinda picturesque at first sight, but can be a little creepy on a closer examination.  But this is not the place to go into that today.
Here's another off across a field.
It never did fain hard enough to wet Our Fuzz up.  He had a rather pleasant walk.  By the time he got there it looked like the rain might even quit.
Once in the barn, he got shed of his raincoat.
He had brought his morning cup-o-joe with him.  The stick is mostly a dog repellent- at least this time.
The "Boys" as she calls them were glad to see The Fuzz.
This big guy is Samson.
The Fuzz doesn't know all that much about these guys, but he's some kind of draft horse and huge.
Everything went fine.  Everybody (including the cat) had their breakfast, and it was time to cut a trail for home- and The Fuzz's own breakfast.
By now the neighbor's goats were out and frisking around.
As were a few other critters.
This kitty...
...a mocking bird...
...who posed for The Fuzz in a pine tree.
The rain had quit for the moment...
But there were still some drops hanging onto the needles.
The Fuzz took a closer look.
If you look even closer, you can see the image of the tree in the drop.
Pretty cool.
Then it was time to head back into the woods, and home.
